Not really Linux related but this is a bit technical for my other blogs! If you need to use touchtones from a Nokia phone using VOIP with Localphone, there is a code to add to get the right codec to make it work.
Localphone
Localphone are one of the more flexible VOIP (internet phone) companies around. I use them for both incoming and outgoing calls, mainly from my Nokia E51 connected via wi-fi to my home network.
DTMF
The default codecs used during this connection don't pass DTMF (touchtones) correctly, which can be frustrating if you're trying to navigate through a customer service menu.
Choose codec
The solution is to dial a prefix before the number which forces the use of a better codec and then works fine for touchtones.
For Localphone, the prefix to dial is *1688. So dial the number like *1688 1 800 555 1212.
